A warm welcome from Jackson, New Hampshire’s Backcountry Bakery & Café and your hosts, Brian & Amy Sweet. This little bakery, located smack dab in the middle of Jackson, strives to provide a comfortable place to rest your weary feet, gather with friends, and enjoy a fine cup of coffee or a homemade pastry, breakfast, or lunch. We’re open seven days a week, year round and strive to always have something new for you to try.
Here we start with the basics, like fresh roasted coffee beans, flour, fruit, eggs, butter, and a smile. What we can turn them into is the art, and fun, of running a bakery. Those coffee beans, roasted fresh in Concord, NH, can quickly become a double shot of espresso, caramel swirl latte, or espresso chocolate shortbread.
That King Arthur Flour, well it routinely gets kneaded and formed into our homemade breads, which we then use on our lunch sandwiches. There is a nearly endless supply of ideas to use up all that fresh fruit; from our blueberry cheesecake bars, to banana nut muffins, to Amy’s mini-apple pies. And then there’s the butter. It magically turns into cranberry orange scones, and Brian’s southern buttermilk biscuits.
What we love about bakeries, and what we try to provide is an exceedingly friendly place to go. We want to hear where you went for a ski, or recommend a great hiking trail to you. We want to greet you by name, and learn your “regular” drink. We are the BackcountryBakery, because that is where we like to be as well, in the woods. To promote hiking, skiing, and all things backcountry, we’ve got our own homemade granola, trail mix, bars, and cookies, to toss in your pack.
We also have the Backcountry Book Store located in the bakery. We try to stock every outdoor guidebook and maps of the White Mountains that we can find, as well as adventure books from here and afar. So if the rainy day has cancelled your hike, at least you can curl up with a good adventure book and a fine cup of coffee. Note: Bookstore will arrive at the beginning of May.
We’re open seven days a week, year round, from 8 am to 4 pm. Check out our breakfast, lunch, or pastry menus here online. Or better yet, come on in and say hi. If we do our job right, we’ll see you again and again.
